The Oak Park Department of Public Health launched an initiative in May to help prevent deaths caused by opioid overdoses, adding publicly-accessible boxes with naloxone at several intersections in the village, officials announced in a news release. According to the release, emergency opioid overdose boxes will be installed in seven easily accessible, public-facing locations throughout Oak Park as part of an 'Opioid Overdose Prevention Project.' Each box contains several pouches with doses of naloxone nasal spray and instructions on how to administer the potentially life-saving medication, which is designed to block the effects of an opioid overdose, the release states.
